Do you have plans yet for the summer break? A longer holiday, perhaps abroad, or just a few days away for the weekend at home?
Whichever you choose, if you have children with you, then the main consideration should be that there are programmes they enjoy too.
It does not matter whether your plan is by the water or more of a hiking one, children find something to enjoy in everything, but you can still do your bit to make it an even better experience for them!
We would like to help you with that in this article, where we have collected a few interesting programmes that are sure to make the holiday a success!
Water-centred trips and holidaysAdventure baths
If you like being near the water in summer, in the great heat, then even for a long weekend you should definitely look for a place where there is some kind of free beach or adventure bath.
Adventure baths offer excitement not just for the children but for the parents too, with their wide range of options. If the little ones are still small, then one of you can keep an eye on them at the children’s pool while the other goes off and has a good go on the slides.
When they are older they can go on the slides together with you. Do not worry, there are usually differences in size and length here too, so if you do not want them to start on the tallest and wildest slide, there are introductory levels as well. ๐
Free beaches
There is perhaps not as much choice here as at an adventure bath, there is no slide or wave pool, but at the same time there is a sandpit, a grassy meadow where you can play ball, sit out on a blanket and play, go pedal boating, and relax properly alongside the splashing about!
Bathing of this kind has a completely different atmosphere, you do not have to worry about your child slipping on a wet stone while running and banging their head, but the water here can suddenly get deeper, and you have to pay attention to how far you let them in.
At lunchtime you can go for lรกngos, you can buy a tasty gyros or a hamburger, but the sandwiches, cakes and snacks brought from home will do the job just as well.
Of course ice cream or an ice lolly is compulsory everywhere! ๐
Wellness accommodation
If you would spend the holiday specifically in a wellness hotel, then there is an excellent opportunity for a dip and for sunbathing here too, and indeed for the adults even a bit of a sauna and a steam cabin are available. In most places you can find a mix of outdoor and indoor pools, so the duality mentioned above is present here in one place.
Besides that there are plenty of programmes to do in the town, and in some places the hotel also offers programmes, specifically for the children. Craft activities, play houses, even a day-care/play-house option, so that in the meantime the parents can also spend time on themselves and with each other.
Holidays and trips close to natureHiking
In the summer heat, walking among the cool trees is a real relief. The green trees and the lush plants hide real treasures, beautiful flowers and forest animals. Be careful with poison sumac and nettles though, it would not be good if the rest of the day were spent scratching because of them.
If you go on proper hiking trails, then you can also discover lookout towers and caves, which can awaken the sense of adventure in the little treasure hunters. A cave hides many exciting things that are worth discovering.
Zoo
You can never get bored of the zoo, especially if you always visit a different one. Each one differs in something, so they all offer unique experiences, and on top of that watching the animals is exciting for the children.
And after all that walking you can be sure that you will not have to get them off to sleep in the evening!
Adventure parkIf we are playing, then let’s play big! Jumping about in trees, sliding along ropes, doing other balance and physical exercises in a playful form, as if Tarzan’s world were coming to life before our eyes!
The courses are divided into different levels, so you can decide which grade would suit your child. The classifications are fairly clear, so this will not be a problem. And if you have a good look round after the game, you might discover a bobsleigh track too! ๐
Sightseeing
If after all the bathing and running about you fancy a slightly more restful day, then take a tour round the town. Have a look at the churches, discover the castles, the playgrounds in the nearby parks, and sit down for lunch in a child-friendly eatery. While the little ones slip off to the playroom waiting for the food, you can catch your breath in peace too.
A museum or an exhibition can also be an interesting experience for children, but try to find something genuinely more exciting, so that they show an interest in it and it really holds their attention.
